Interpro Champs!

Hey guys, So at the weekend the All-Ireland Interprovincials took place where I represented the Leinster senior team as well as coaching the Leinster under 15 team.

On Saturday, It was an early start to the day for my under 15 team who started their campaign against Munster. They got off to a flying start winning 9-0, not even dropping a set. What more could I have asked for. Following this win, we set up a clash with Connacht who had narrowly lost out to Ulster 5-4 in the morning match. With a few changes made to my team we lined out against Connacht, winning 9-0 again, dropping only 2 sets. What a brilliant start to the day, which meant we had set up a thrilling final with Ulster. This was anticipated to be one of the tightest affairs but with my team playing some super badminton we outplayed the Ulster team, beating them 7-2. What a day and what a result it was for the Leinster under 15s, which included some Irish under 15 Internationals who will play in the four nations quadrangular in a couple of weeks time!

On Sunday, I lined out for the Senior team in the Premier division where we faced Ulster in a straight final. With both teams missing some of their players it was down to be a brilliant final. On the day, Leinster proved too strong for the Ulster team, beating them 9-0. I played in the Women's singles and Women's Doubles events where I won both my games convincingly in two sets. What a result for us! Next up for the team is the English Inter-County play-offs where we will take on Hertfordshire, Warwickshire and Nottinghamshire with the top two teams being promoted to England's premier division. This is our third year in a row being in the play-offs and hopefully we will produce some good wins and get the team promoted. Onwards and upwards!

I will keep you guys posted with our progress!

Wobble Boards: Weird and Wonderful

">Hey guys, so for this post I decided I would talk a little about the wobble board and why I find it so useful for my training and rehabilitation. Such a simple, yet brilliant idea and I love it! If you don't know what a wobble board is, you're mad, but keep reading! It's such a simple thing but it has endless uses and I mean endless! You think your balance is good? Now challenge yourself on the wobble board. This is a wobble board... Such a simple idea but so so effective! If you don't have a wobble board you need to get one! Like now! This piece of equipment is probably one of my favorites and the best thing is you can use it whenever you want in the comfort of your own home. I have had so many ankle injuries, ranging from torn ligaments to tendinitis to a simple sprain and let me tell you this will become your favorite soon enough! I first got a wobble board following the recommendation of my physio, about 5 years ago, and from the day I got it I haven...

Ice Baths: Are they really worth it?!?

Hey guys, so for this post I decided to do some research into cold water therapy after training. The post will include the main benefits of this form of recovery with some guided research. Hope you enjoy and can take something from it! Cryotherapy or cold water immersion is used readily in today's world by the top athletes across many different sports as it is seen as an effective way to relieve muscle fatigue and tiredness. But is it the best method? It is seen as common practice in sport from rugby players to elite runners to professional soccer players. But are we right to question it's worth? Let's see what the research says... The theory behind ice baths is related to the fact that intense exercise causes microtrauma, which is tiny tears in your muscle fibers. This type of muscle damage is actually a goal of exercise as it stimulates muscle cell activity and helps repair the damage and strengthen the muscles (muscle hypertrophy). But it is also directly relate...

Warm ups 101

Hey guys, welcome back to my blog. For this post I am going to talk about how we should warm up before a training session and I will also give you an example of my warm ups. Hope you enjoy! Warm ups in my opinion are a vital component of training. Every athlete,in every sport should do a warm up. The point behind warming up is that it gradually warms up our body temperature which decreases risk of injury. Skipping a warm up completely can be extremely detrimental not only to your performance but you can also pick up an injury easily because your muscles aren't warm. A warm up should last roughly 15-20 minutes. Dr Ian Jeffreys developed the framework RAMP protocol which allows for activities to be easily classified into a warm-up sequence. 1. R aise 2. A ctivate and M obilise 3. P otentiate (or performance) Phase 1: Raise The aim of the raise phase is to increase our body temperature, heart rate, respiration rate, blood flow and joint viscosity. This first section of t...
